Fluoride Treatment for Lasting Cavity Protection
Did you know…
Who Can Benefit From Fluoride Treatment?
At Falcon Dental Group, we often recommend fluoride treatments for children, but they’re helpful for patients of all ages. Young children with newly erupted teeth are especially prone to cavities since their enamel is still developing. While fluoride toothpaste helps, professional fluoride treatments provide stronger protection and reduce the risks that come with young kids swallowing toothpaste.
Fluoride treatment can also be a great option for adults with weakened enamel, receding gums, or higher sensitivity. It’s especially useful for patients who may not get enough fluoride from their local water supply.
How Does Fluoride Treatment Work?
The procedure is quick, simple, and completely painless. We offer different forms of fluoride, such as rinses, gels, foams, or varnishes. You can even choose from a variety of flavors to make the process more enjoyable.
Once applied, the fluoride stays on your teeth for a few minutes to allow it to bond with the enamel and strengthen it. Afterward, any excess solution is removed. You’ll be advised to avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing for about 30 minutes so the fluoride can fully absorb into your teeth.
What to Expect After Treatment
Fluoride treatments are very safe and don’t usually cause side effects. In rare cases, if a small amount is accidentally swallowed, you may feel mild nausea, but this usually passes quickly.
For patients at higher risk of tooth decay, Dr. Falcón may also recommend fluoride supplements between office visits. For most patients, using a fluoride toothpaste daily is enough to maintain protection and keep cavities at bay.
